Exploring Roles in the ECE Community
Communities of practices are present in a variety of settings, providing input from individuals and organizations with a common goal, improving the outcomes of practice (Wenger, 2006). The early childhood includes a range of organizations dedicated to the well-being of our youngest citizens. Working with young children enables me to make a difference. The support of other organizations is vital in the early childhood programs effectiveness.
The three organizations I chose are instrumental in providing for the well-being of young children.
Healthy Child Care Texas
Child Health Care Consultants work with child care providers to promote health, safety, and quality in early childhood care and education settings. The Child Care Health Consultant provides trainings, assessments, and site visits to support early care and education providers. Develop partnerships among and between child care and health care providers, as well as parents, with a focus on prevention, early detection, and intervention for issues related to health, safety, nutrition, growth, and development.
Child Care Health Consultant Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following areas and 12 academic hours in child development or early childhood/early care and education from an accredited university including: Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Nursing and be licensed as a Registered Nurse, Health Education/Promotion. Experience required in early care and education settings, child health and safety issues, and knowledge of community resources, also possess the ability to train adults, provide consultation, verbal and written communication skills.
The Child Life Program
Child Life Specialist:
The Child Life program assists children and families with the stress and anxiety associated with healthcare experiences. This is done by providing sensory education on medical events (preparation for procedures and surgeries, disease-specific education, etc.); relaxation and stress management education; play activities designed to encourage expression of feelings and increase self-esteem; and medical play to encourage communication of feelings and mastery over medical equipment. Having experience in direct child care and developmentally appropriate practice will aid in fulfilling the requirements this position.
Texas Department of Family and Protective Services
Child Care Licensing Inspector:
Duties include evaluating new applications and childcare facilities to issue licenses and registrations. Monitoring licensed and registered childcare facilities, documenting compliance or noncompliance with standards using agency forms, and notifies childcare providers of required corrective or adverse actions being taken. The position relates to my experience in the early childcare field. Overseeing the daily operations of a center entail adhering to regulations set by the state licensing agency. I am committed to providing children with quality early learning experiences this position will enable me to work with local programs to ensure they are providing quality services to children and families.
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university or current employment as a Child Care Licensing Specialist/Inspector III; one year previous experience as a Child Care Licensing Specialist/Inspector in Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Knowledge of Texas laws relating to regulation of childcare, child abuse/neglect, and immunization of children.
Preferred Experience: Child Development, Day Care and Day Care Administration,
Preferred Degrees: Early Childhood Development, Human Development or Early Childhood Education.
