Scholar Practitioners as Catalysts for Change

·            ·            Evaluation is used to create and synthesize information about interventions, to make judgments and to gauge the desirability of an intervention and the degree of fit between intended and unintended outcomes (Kirby, 2019). The National Association for the Education of Young Children (2003) states that early childhood professional along with other stakeholders have a shared responsibility to make ethical appropriate, valid and reliable assessment an integral component of all early childhood programs.   As a scholar-practitioner it is my responsibility to explain program plans, improve communication among stakeholders, and use feedback to improve program effectiveness. Families are an important part of the evaluation process. Ensuring that all families understand the importance of evaluations and the effect on children’s learning is necessary to prevent obstacle...

Scholar Practioiners as Program Evaluators

According to Gilliam (2003) ongoing, job-embedded professional development is essential in guiding early childhood educators in understanding and adapting the curriculum to meet the learning needs of culturally and linguistically diverse children and children with disabilities, and design more effective approaches to working with all children. I intend to utilize the information I learn in this course to plan and implement best practices to produce positive outcomes for children. Research from the shows that supportive relationships combined with stimulating environments are essential in infant and toddler brain architecture   (National Symposium on Early Childhood Science and Policy, n.d.) . The second scenarios involve a three-year-old female who appears to have possible developmental delays. You are invited to find an appropriate assessment instrument for each scenario. Purposeful assessment of children must enhance children’s learning should employ a variety of methods and need to reach toward authentic assessment. NAEYC and NAECS/SDE (2003) defines assessment as a systematic procedure for obtaining information from observation, interviews, portfolios, projects, tests, and other sources that can be used to make judgments about children’s characteristics. When the assessment provides information about the child’s skills, abilities, and knowledge and interests the teacher uses this information to plan learning experiences to meet the child’s needs (Jiban 2013). Scenario 1 Jay is a three-year-old male, (D.O.B. ...

Time Well Spent

Image
Over the past eighteen months I have gained knowledge about diversity that has improved my professional development. Realtionships, old and new have benefited from the information I have learned in courses of my master’s program. Respect for others and their way of life is another lesson learned. Being tolerant of differences is not enough embracing and celebrating differences is required. The program has helped me discover my unlimited potential in working with young children. I know what I do for children, counts, it is important. My long term goal is to continue working with other early childhood educators to improve current understanding of anti-bias education and the importance of culturally responsive interactions with children and families. One by one we can make a difference. Thank you Dr. Dartt for your guidance in this course. I have learned to look deeper for the answers and formulate a cohesive solution to the problems that may arise. Colleagues your questions ...
