What I Have Learned

My hope is to develop a reciprocal relationships with all children and families, respect their home culture and language, and provide children opportunities to engage in learning experiences reflective of their home culture.
·    
    One goal I have for the profession is to ensure diversity training is a priority. I encounter many early childhood professionals who are unaware of the importance of learning about the family's culture and how this improves relationships between the program and families. 
·

I agree with the idea of reciprocal relationships, I too had this same hope. I think it is important as educators that we create this with every family and child that we deal with. I think diversity should be a priority because teaching diversity to children is the only way that we can create change for the future.

Establishing Professional Contacts and Expanding Resources  My initial request has not produced any response as of yet. I am hopeful that I will hear something in the coming week. According to Gilliam (2003) ongoing, job-embedded professional development is essential in guiding early childhood educators in understanding and adapting the curriculum to meet the learning needs of culturally and linguistically diverse children and children with disabilities, and design more effective approaches to working with all children.
