Early Childhood Development Initiative
Our Mission
To bring our vast experiences and proven
methods to support the education goals of Governments and work with community
stakeholders to promote a knowledge base which equips communities and parents,
teachers and other education professionals to meet the on-going learning needs
of children and ensure successful holistic development
(Early Childhood Development
Initiative, 2012).
The Early Childhood Development Initiative((ECDI) is an
international non-governmental organization of qualified child development and education
professionals dedicated to working with governments, education ministries,
school boards, and education practitioners in Nigeria to foster positive learning
strategies and environments that promote development of the whole child.
Professional Development for Teachers includes workshops on learning
through play, early literacy development, learning spaces, parent involvement,
effective classroom strategies, special needs and inclusion, and motivating
students through cooperative learning. There is also a partnership with Cegep
de St-Felicien, a Canadian Institute of higher learning, which offers
interested individuals certified online training in early childhood education.
The focus on training to improve the overall well-being of
the Nigerian children is an issue that was a main theme on the website. The
work of ECDI to ensure teachers, parents and government entities are on one
accord is commendable. While the effects of poverty on learning and child
welfare are important there is additional mantra to gain knowledge at every level
of society to better children’s well-being.
